TAPE FIASCO 2 Updated With New Effects

Tape Fiasco 2 was a recent upgrade to the free Tape Fiasco glitch processing plugin and just got a small update of it’s own. This update adds four new effects: Clang, Aether, tremor, and Orbit. If you didn’t receive the email or have been waiting for a specific feature, here’s what’s new:
CLANG: A ring modulator with various wave shapes including noise. Clang goes up to 5 Khz for some really fun brittle modulation. It can also track the frequency with questionable accuracy, but this is actually really fun for unpredictable chaos. There’s also a “grind” mode which has its own distinct dirty character. A few more goodies are built into this ring mod like an LFO, mask and more.
AETHER: A new reverb is very much appreciated. Aether is a much more pleasing and soft reverb compared to the original offerings. I really like the tone of this one, it reminds me of Raum. There’s a built in freeze function and a shimmer control, but I find the pitch shifting in the shimmer to be a bit dissonant.
TREMOR: It’s a tremolo, you could already do this with one of the LFOs mapped to volume. Though, this does free up an LFO which is nice.
ORBIT: An autopan, same deal as the tremolo, but left to right instead of quiet to loud.
This update also adds step length control to the two sequencers allowing for polymetric patterns. This may have been in a previous update, but was not reflected in my review so I’m adding it here and updating my review. There’s also a cool “fill” control for the sequencers that randomly fills steps, a nice little addition to just quickly get new glitches.
The real stars of the update are clang and aether, both are solid and flesh out the effects selection pretty well. Tremor and orbit may actually just clutter up the effects and get in the way, more options to search through when looking for the fun stuff. I’m only kidding of course, these add variety to the selection and free up modulation sources when you need them. Speaking of modulation, you can now add as many destinations as you want to the performers and I think there’s some new LFO shapes, though I may be misremembering that.
