FRCTL GRN UPDATED

FRCTL has updated their granular effect GRN actually a couple times now so this update article is quite belated. I’ll have to update my review as well because they’ve added quite a bit to this effect. At the time I got my hands on GRN I felt it was a bit too minimalistic, a better option for people just dipping their toes into granular but not for the initiated grain lover.

Since then FRCTL has added mappable LFOs, a whole effects section, and redesigned the harmony section. The harmony section is now has sliders for direction and scatter so you can control its intensity. A new effects rack has been added with ten new effects (if you count utility). These are just simple rack effects you’d find in plugins like serum or vital, they are a nice addition and spice up presets, but aren’t really a selling point. Finally the addition of two mappable LFOs brings a whole lot of new options. These can be mapped to any controls, including the effects, and offer basic LFO shapes as well as random & SH.

This update definitely makes GRN significantly more powerful than its launch feature set. I regret putting off this article for so long as I feel these updates definitely warrant attention. You can read my original review here: https://www.databroth.com/blog/grn-review where I talk about the core grain features and my initial reaction.
